Exceptional Large Mayan Plate with God K: Ex Ferdinand Anton

This attractive Mayan Tripod Plate dates 600-700 A.D., and is a large 12.75 inches in diameter.  This piece has very bright colors, and is intact with no repair/restoration.  This piece is one of the best recorded examples for the type, and is from the collection of Ferdinand Anton who wrote many books relative to pre-Columbian art in the 1970's and 1980's.  "This piece features "God K" with four smoke scrolls, who represented the agricultural production of the earth, and this piece may have been a ceremonial type ceramic that held an offering and/or transferred it's power to it's owner."  One of the best Mayan pieces from the Anton collection.  $8,675.00.  http://www.apoloniagallery.com

Superb Greek Boeotian Black Glazed Kantharos with Ivy Tendrils

This large Greek black glazed kantharos dates circa 450-425 B.C., is in mint quality condition, and is approximately 10 inches high.  One of the best recorded examples, and one of the few examples that feature "chevrons" on both sides of the piece, which also highlight the lovely "ivy leaf and tendril" decorative elements that are seen above.  "This piece was likely used for drinking wine, as well as for pouring libations in a religous ceremony, as this piece is "mint quality" and may have also been a votive type piece."  One of the best examples with a "Classical Period" Greek shape and form.    $2,875.00.  http://www.apoloniagallery.com
